Weekend-ful of Japanese Goodness!

We went to the Powell Street Festival on the weekend. It is an annual celebration of Japanese Canadian arts, culture and heritage that features something for everyone: dance, music, sumo tournament, craft vendors, traditional displays, and tons of scrumptious Japanese food.

This is the first year that I attended the festival and it was a ton of fun. Other than the interesting live performances and the yummy food, what really amazed me were all the crafts being sold - the craftsmanship and the details were absolutely stunning!

We bought this Yukata (casual summer kimono) for Kaitlyn (my 7-month-old baby) and I can't wait to put it on her.  Isn't it cute?! This was hand made by a young and talented local designer, you can check out her Facebook Page if you are interested.

To keep the Japanese theme going, hubby took me to Takifugu for Japanese dinner. I really appreciate their unique menu and the freshness of the food. It was surprising affordable too, considering the quality of the food and the service.  We wrapped up the night with some cheesecake and that's the end of my fun filled weekend.

A Sweet Summer Necklace

Golden heart, lady bug, strawberry, candy...you name it, and this necklace has it all. When Louis Vuitton first came out with its Fraise Collection in 2004/2005, I fell in love with every piece so badly and I had to collect them all.  Since my outfit for the day is very plain indeed, the vivid color and the playfulness of this necklace is perfect to jazz up my outfit.

Jumpsuit, literally!

Today the hubs decided to be spontaneous and took me to bodyflight - simulated skydiving. It seemed fairly easy when the instructor went over the training with us. However, when it came my first round, I have to admit, it was not as easy as it seemed and I got a little bit scared as I was not able to control where I was going.  My second round was way better since I figured out how to maintain my posture. The staff who assisted my flying let go of me, and I was able to fly by myself for a few moment until I was unstable again and hit the wall.

In a "real" jumpsuit, getting ready for my first flight!
The hubs and I only signed up for 2 rounds, each being one minute in length. But it did feel longer than a minute when I was flying. My back ached so badly afterwards, I guess that's the result of not getting enough exercise on a regular basis. Bodyflight was such a good workout since you have to work really hard to maintain the flying posture. Overall, it was so much fun and we will do it again in the future. If you live in Vancouver, check out Fly Zone and give it a try, it is a great activity.

Vancouver, we have lift-off, woohoo.
Free flying!

As we were driving up to Fly Zone, we passed by this really cool background so the hubs snapped a few photos of my outfit for today. Here, I am wearing my own jumpsuit before donning the "real" jumpsuit.

Vintage Finds - Chanel Earrings

Ever since I got my vintage Chanel bag (see here), I have become so fond of vintage stuffs. Lately, I've been doing lots of vintage shopping at my local thrift stores. One thing about vintage shopping that I like the most is surprises. You'll never know what's in store and when you score some hidden gems, it's like hitting the jackpot.  One of the highlights of my recent vintage purchases got to be this pair of vintage Chanel earrings. As I was browsing the earrings section, I spotted this pair of gold earrings that have the CC logo. Instinct tells me that these can't be authentic Chanel. Out of curiosity, I grabbed the earrings and took at look at the back and it read "(c) Chanel (r) Made in France". I literately squealed when I saw the stamp at the back and I was like OMG these are authentic Chanel earrings. I further inspected them and saw very few scratches that are hardly noticeable. Frankly, these earrings are quite heavy, and I do not know how or when I am going to wear them; but for the price I paid, I would be very stupid if I didn't buy them.

"Ruby Slippers"

I finally jumped on the TOMS bandwagon and purchased my first pair. Initially I had my eyes on the black glittery ones, however they were out of my size. So I chose the red instead. I wouldn't say it's a compromise as I am loving the eye-catching red color so much and they are so comfy. As well, I really appreciate the company's passion and their one-for-one program. It's nice to know that with every pair of shoes purchased, TOMS will give a new pair of shoes to children in developing countries!

Girly

Is there such a thing as "July gloom"? There must be, how else would it explain the weather these days. I know I've been complained enough about the weather, although it is mid-July, but it does not feel like summer at all. Overcast, precipitation and chill make it feel like Spring.  I bought this dress from ASOS back in February, and I've been waiting to wear it when the weather gets hotter. Since the weather is not getting any better, I figure I'd wear it now in case I won't get a chance to wear it later on. This dress is everything that I could ask for in a summer dress - the light weight chiffon material, the feminine floral print, the flowy-ness and the way it moves when I walk. I just love everything about this dress!

Summer Scarf

How are you...my blogger friends? Sorry I have been neglecting my blog lately as I am focusing most of my time on my daughter. I am hoping to pick up the pace and update my blog more frequently as before. When it comes to daily outfits, I am more of a minimalist and tend to pick out outfits that are simple and clean. Today is no exception – a simple tee and a pair of skinny jeans are always my favourite summer attire.  Of course, accessories are a great way to jazz up any simple outfits.  I did not feel like wearing a necklace today so I replaced it with a summer scarf. I am loving the scarf trend, with so many pretty prints and so many ways to wear them, they make the perfect summer accessories.

Google+

I just got onto Google+ yesterday, woohoo. In case you haven't heard of it yet, Google+ is a new social network just like Facebook. The main feature of Google+ is "circles" which allows you to split your contacts into groups so you can specify the audiences of your posts.   It is also similar to twitter - it allows you to follow others without requiring approval (of course you can only see what they have shared with the public).

From what I know, Google+ is still a closed beta. If you need an invite, just shoot me an email: winnie (at) shopchicescape (dot) com

I know I have been MIA for a while, but I haven't forgotten about this blog. My 6 months old is consuming most of my time right now. Ever since I introduced her solid foods, she showed a lack of interest in milk (often times she would just reject the whole bottle I give her). She has not been doing very good with her weight gain lately. I have been advised by the pediatrician to switch to a different brand of formula and to keep an close eye on her milk intakes. Long story short, we have scheduled to visit the pediatrician every 2 weeks. Kaitlyn's weight gain was normal last week (phew) and hopefully she will continue with her progress. Anyway, I promise I will have some outfit post very soon :)

Happy Canada Day!

Today I wanted to wear something red and white to show some Canadian pride. However, I only had a red dress that was too formal to be worn on a family day, so I ended up painting my nails red instead :)

The bracelet to the very right is DIY from safety pins and beads, isn't it nice?

We went to the fair that was across the street from our place. It was so nice to see many people are wearing our country color to show their patriot love. We had so much fun checking out each activity and listening to live performances. The food there smelled amazing especially the kabobs, but since the line up was way too long I was too lazy to wait in the line.

Kaitlyn (my 6 month old) is obsessed with her fingers, she can suck on them all day long. I am such a proud mama, she is a cutie, don't you agree?

Even Kaitlyn wanted to show some Canadian pride. She was passed out by the end of the day.

After the fair, my sister and I were goofing around the parking lot and took some silly pictures. Oh, hubby is missing from this post as he is too shy to appear on my blog. Anyway, have a good long weekend!
